Welcome, welcome to the third edition of Bookish Banter! This is a weekly blog post where I talk about bookish topics with Elizabeth of Redhead Reader and Ellen of Pottermorebooks!
This weeks discussion is...
Bookish Pet Peeves!
MY ANSWER:
Oh boy! This one seems like a toughie! I'll just start making a list, and see how far I can get!
1. Insta-love!! I really really dislikie insta-lovie! HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT YOU LOVE SOMEONE AFTER MEETING THEM ONCE?? It doesn't make a dang bit of sense, and I have a hard time reading any book that has this. I more of a fan of the slow burn type of romance!
2. Bad boy sydrome. Why does it seem like every YA book that's coming out lately has a bad boy as the main love interest? I mean, I get that they are sexy and cool, but does every character have to be this way? Where are the girl's that are attracted to normal guys? The geeky ones? The boy next door? The sweet cowboy? Examples: LEVI FROM FANGIRL! TREVOR FROM PIVOT POINT!!
3. Boys and girls that are best friends with zero interest in each other romantically. I need more of this! I love platonic relationships!! IT IS POSSIBLE TOO! Argue with me all you want, but my best friend growing up was a boy, and we never got together once. I mean, technically we kissed when we were 3, but that doesn't count. From then on, it was strictly platonic. One of my best friends now is my actual best friend's husband, and trust me, neither of us has ever been interested in the other! That was kind of confusing. But still, I'm getting sick of the stereotypical boy/girl friendship where they can't be just friends.
4. When a book is told from two POVs, but the voices sound the same. Don't do this if you can't have TWO distinct voices. I hated Allegiant because of this. If I wasn't paying attention to the name printed at the beginning of each chapter, I had no idea who I was reading. Defiance by C.J. Redwine is a great example of a book who has two distinct voices for the character's telling the story!
I can't think of anymore of the top of my head, mostly because I am so excited to start my very first giveaway EVER!! Also, did you notice the new design on the blog?? What do you think?
The reason I am having this giveaway is because IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY (and I'll have a giveaway if I want to! You would giveaway something to if it happened to you!!) If you have no idea what just happened there then I'm a little sorry for the burst of weirdness!
So you may be asking what I plan on giving away today? Well, I have a never read ARC of The Darkest Minds for one winner, and an assortment of all kinds of fun swag for another! Some of the swag may or may not be signed, and when I say that, I mean some of it DEFINITELY WILL BE!! ;) Although, I haven't dug through all my swag to pick out what I'll include in the pack yet!
RULES ( or the dirty little details)
RULES ( or the dirty little details)
1. US ONLY! I'm sorry, but I'm broke and I can only afford shipping in the US right now! I'll have an INT giveaway soon, I promise.
2. MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO ENTER. Or have your parents permission! :)
3. NO CHEATING!! Please no cheating guys. Cheaters never win! I WILL be checking all entries, and any entries that don't follow the directions will be disqualified! NO EXCEPTIONS!
4. There will be TWO different winners chosen randomly through the rafflecopter form below. The winners will be notified via email, and will have 48 hours to respond. If there's no response within 48 hours, another winner will be chosen!!

Happy Birthday!!!!! I hope you get all of the best books and have a blast!
ReplyDeleteYou should get a nice, brand new pre-order, like The One by Kiera Cass, and then, you'll have a late bday gift as well!
Aw thank you!!! It was an amazing birthday!! Ohhh, I like the way you think! That's a fab idea :D
DeleteHappy Birthday Becca! I hope you had/have a great birthday and you get lots of books! If you haven't already you should check out the Games series by Nyrae Dawn and maybe the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sarah!! Hmm I haven't heard of the Games series, so I'm going to go check it out! Actually I love the Lunar Chronicles!! I just got Cress for my birthday from my parents!! Haha!!!
DeleteI definitely agree with your number 4!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY, BLOG BESTIE!!!!!
Hope you have the best day ever!
Haha, thanks bloggie bestie!!! I had an amazing day!! :D
DeleteYAAAAY for your birthday!! Happy birthday Becca! I hope you're having an awesome day full of fun, family, books and cake!!
ReplyDeleteBookish pet peeves? I'm not very keen on cliches and even less on high school cliches, not a fan of the overly typical quiet girl that takes more than half the book to grow a backbone, not a fan of love triangles or insta-love, there's attraction for sure but not love...
Aw thanks girly!! It was awesome and full of all the things! Oooh, those are good ones! I completely agree!!
DeleteI really wish there were more platonic relationships, too. I get really tired of everyone thinking romance is needed in a story, and that a girl has to fall in love. *roll eyes* That doesn't happen to some people (example right here). Insta-love is uberly annoying, too. :)
ReplyDeleteBlah I know. Annoying. Haha same here!! Glad I'm not the only one!
DeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY BECCA! Hope you have a great one :)
ReplyDeleteYou know what book I think you should buy? Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep ;) OR maybe another Percy Jackson book! You can never have too much Percy ;)
Haha how discreet, Liliana! Thanks though!! I just might pick it up!
DeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteI am so tired of no platonic relationships in books too! Why do all guys and girls need to be in love.
There are so many books that you can get with your birthday money! Maybe Cress, Vicious, anything by Rainbow Rowell? I am new to your blog (thanks for visiting mine recently!), so I am not sure what you like to read yet. :)
Thank so much Pamela!!
DeleteI have no idea. It's so stupid.
I actually got Cress from my parents for my birthday!! haha but Vicious sounds like a great choice! Everyone seems to love it!! Aw, well I'm very thankful to have you here, girly!! I hope you enjoy it! I mostly read YA fantasy, dystopian, paranormal, and occasionally contemp though!
Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteI dislike insta-love as well and agree that the bad boy is getting old. I still like them but it would be nice to see some variety.
Hope you're having a fantastic day!
Thank you so much! It was absolutely fantabulous!! :D
DeleteGood call on the two voices that sound the same - kills me! Sometimes POV make the book awful when it could be amazing!
ReplyDeleteMissie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
Blah I KNOW!!!! SO FRUSTRATING!!!
DeleteP.s. Happy Birthday! I think you should spend your birthday money on a pedicure and a new book :) That is always a perfect choice for me!
ReplyDeleteMissie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
Haha well, of course! That's exactly what I'll be buying! I just have to decide which ones!! :) Thanks, Missie!!
DeleteHappy Birthday Becca =D
ReplyDeleteI think you should get Rush by Eve Silver because I totally loved it and Push, the sequel, just went up on Edelweiss so the cliffhanger at the end of book 1 won't kill you!
Aw thanks Emily!! Haha I've already read Rush!!! IT WAS SO AMAZING!! I am eagerly anticipating Push!!
DeleteHappy Birthday! Hope you have a blast :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sick of insta-love as well! And cliches. And books that are told from annoying character POVs.
Aw thank you!! :) I'm glad you agree!!
DeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHope you get lots and lots of birthday money to spend on lots and lots of books! :D You should definitely get Shadow and Bone if you haven't read it already.
Daphne @ Reading Until Dawn
Thanks Daphne!! Haha I've already read Shadow & Bone! Fab recommendation though!!! I love that series!! Cannot wait for Ruin & Rising!!
DeleteHappy Bday! You should buy Suzanne Lazear's series!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! :) I'll have to check it out!
DeleteHappy Birthday! I think you should buy The Unbound or The Well's End.
ReplyDeleteOh yes!! The Well's End sounds soooo awesome! I really need to get a copy of The Unbound too!! Great picks, Amy!
DeleteHappy birthday! You should get Prodigal by Rektok Ross and Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. They are super good books!
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather!! Hmm I haven't heard of Prodigal before *goes to goodreads* but I have read Eleanor & Park already! It was pretty good!! :)
DeleteHappy Birthday, dear! Try reading Ransom Rigg's Miss Peregrine's book.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Haha I already have, and I absolutely LOVED it!! I still need to read the second book though!
DeleteHappy Birthday!! Have you read any of Katie McGarry's books? They're amazing! I love Angelfall by Susan Ee too, and anything by Kasie West. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela! No, I actually haven't, even though I have Pushing the Limits on my shelf -_- Lol, I need to read it asap!! Also liked Angelfall and LOVE KASIE WEST! :)
DeleteHappy late birthday! I'm reading Teeth by Hannah Moskovitz right now and it is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Hmm I haven't read it before but I'll be checking it out now!:)
DeleteHappy Birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteI just finished Violet Hour and that was really good. What a cliffhanger!!
Hmm I haven't heard of it before! Thanks Michele! :)
DeleteHappy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteBuy the books you have waited longest for from your TBR list.
Aw thanks Sherry! :)
DeleteThanks Holly!! Hmm I don't normally read graphic novels but I might have to make an exception for VA!! Blah I hate that too!!!
