Welcome, welcome to Bookish Banter! This is a weekly blog post where I talk about bookish topics with Elizabeth of Redhead Reader and Ellen of Pottermorebooks!

This week's discussion is...

Bookshelf Organization
How is your shelf organized? Color? Alphabetized? Haphazardly? TBR/Read?

My Answer...

Now that I am writing this post, I realize how much I really need to spend some quality time with my bookshelves. It's not that they are messy per say. It's just the haphazard-ness is getting a little out of hand. Usually my shelves are all pretty and lined up perfectly, but after taking these pictures, well they just don't seem as nicely shelved as usual. However, I do organize all of my shelves (most of the time), and I figured the best way to explain the hows and whys would be to show you!

First of all, I separate my books based on whether I've read them or not. So these first couple of shelves are all of books that I've read! They are all alphabetized by author. I really wanted to color code them, but I have this weird quirk where I can't separate books in a series. They have to be together, because THEY ARE A FAMILY, okay? Okay.

So anyways...here they are!

So those are my 'Read' bookshelves. Now, you are about to get a glimpse inside just how bad my book buying problem is. I hope you're sitting down.

*Ahem*

Yes, those two shelves are overflowing with all my 'To Be Read' books. What have I gotten myself into? It gives me anxiety just looking at it. Granted, all of those books aren't ones that I've purchased. There are also a few ARCs and books I've won via giveaways or gotten as gifts but still.. that's insane. You can kind of see how they used to be organized by color, but keeping them organized that way is very time consuming, and I've kind of slacked on it.

I have one other bookshelf that I forgot to take a picture of, but it's just of books that are on my mom's TBR, and I just put those in order of 'NEED TO READ NOW' to 'Eh, it's good but not an ASAP read'.

Those are my bookshelves, friends, organized in all sorts of odd ways, but I love each and every one of them dearly, and promise to devote some extra time into straightening them up soon!

What about YOU?
How do you organize your bookshelves?

  1. Right now, I don't have proper organized bookshelves... I'm probably gonna be moving by the end of the year finally, so once I get my own place I'll dedicate a room with bookshelves floor to ceiling and finally can organize things. I have too many books in boxes and that's painful!

    1. Oh yes that is painful!!!! Yes, I had to beg and beg to get a room to myself for my books. Thankfully my parents agreed. It was either that, or my bedroom floor was going to give out because of all the weight from the books. (I live on a second story) So I used that little fact to my advantage. I just need to reorganize bad. SO LITTLE TIME UGH

  2. I need to organize big time. I have one full shelf and a bunch of piles scattered around my house. My TBR pile is not as bad as yours though LOL. That's a lot of books!!!
