#ArmchairBEA: Day One - Introduction

Sunday, May 25, 2014

Don't know what Armchair BEA is? Well, it's a virtual convention for all the poor souls (like me) who can't attend Book Expo America and/or BEA Blogging Convention in New York this week. Check out Armchair BEA for more information!

This is my first time participating in Armchair BEA, but I'm really excited. Today we kick off by introducing ourselves and answering a few questions!

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? Where in the world are you blogging from?

(This is me, posing with my Talon ARC that I won last week!)

My name is Becca, and I started Pivot Book Reviews on January 1st of this year, so I've been blogging for five months now, and love every single second of it! I got into blogging because I love reading, and I love talking about reading, but none of my friends IRL do so what better way is there to connect with other book lovers than starting a book blog? I couldn't think of one, so here I am! I blog from the state of Oklahoma, right smack dab in the middle of the US, where the weather changes about as quickly as you can blink your eyes! If you want to know more about me, check out my About Me tab at the top! There's a really awkward video I made, where my dog won't stop barking in the background. Trust me, it's hilarious!

2. Describe your blog in just one sentence. Then, list your social details -- Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. -- so we can connect more online.

Pivot Book Reviews not only pivots you in the right direction for your newest book obsession, but also recreates your favorite book covers every week with her dogs with the the feature COVER PUPPIES!

Twitter - @PIVOTBOOKREVIEW
Instagram - @PIVOTBOOKREVIEWS
Facebook - Personal / Blog
Goodreads - Becca Fowler (PivotBookReviews)
Bloglovin - Personal / Blog

3. What genre do you read the most? Anything YA, but I really love Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Contemporaries at the moment!  I love to read because it helps me escape.

4. What was your favorite book read last year? Pivot Point by Kasie West. What’s your favorite book so far this year? The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski!

5. Share your favorite book or reading related quote.

"I used to think that when people fell in love, they just landed where they landed, and they had no choice in the matter afterward. And maybe that's true of beginnings, but it's not true of this, now. I fell in love with him. But I don't just stay with him by default as if there's no one else available to me. I stay with him because I choose to, every day that I wake up, every day that we fight or lie to each other or disappoint each other. I choose him over and over again, and he chooses me."

-Allegiant by Veronica Roth

That's it for my introduction questions! It was really hard to narrow things down, but I got through it! I cannot wait to visit blogs this week, and learn about everyone and meet new people!! It's definitely going to be a blast!

Are you participating in Armchair BEA this week?
Or are you one of the lucky ones who's actually going to BE at BEA?

  1. I'm not going to be going to either of the BEAs... next week I'm gonna be so super busy with baking the mini cupcakes for my friend's wedding that I won't have the time for properly taking part of Armchair BEA! I will still be checking Twitter and the blogosphere when I need to get away from all the fondant and icing!!

    1. Dude. I was too! Ironically it was my WoW last week and then I woke up and found out I won a copy!!! I was so stoked! Yes! I absolutely adored Split Second just as much as Pivot Point!! I also suggest reading her other two books, The Distance Between Us and On The Fence (which comes out in July!)

  3. Nice to meet you, Becca! I'm totally in love with your blog header. I've always had a soft spot for foxes because our high school mascot was the fox and I was the crazy fool mascot who DRESSED UP in a fox suit. I hope you enjoy your first Armchair BEA!

  4. Hey Becca, Nice to "meet" you! We read a lot of the same genres. I added you on Goodreads. I see that you're reading Talon (Talon, #1) by Julie Kagawa. How is it so far? I'm currently reading The Forever Song by her and it's pretty good..

    Enjoy Armchair BEA!

    1. Hey Tamara! Nice to "meet" you too! :) YAY! I'll accept it as soon as I get on there! Yes! I am loving Talon so far. It is definitely VERY GOOD! I still need to finish up the immortal rules trilogy and read The Forever Song, but I just haven't gotten to it! I'm glad you are enjoying it though :)

  5. Hi Becca! I love your Cover Puppies! I went to BEA once, years ago, and it was a great experience. I contemplated going this year as we recently moved to CT and NYC is just down the road...but maybe next year. Its something all book lovers should try to go to at least once in their life if they can swing it. Last year was my first Armchair BEA and I enjoyed it so much. I look forward to reading your posts throughout the week.

    1. Hey Chris! Thank you!! I really enjoy doing Cover Puppies. It's so much fun, and everyone always gets a kick out of it..well, everyone except my pups! Haha as soon as they see me pull out the glasses, they start running! I really really would like to go to BEA next year. I was going to try to go this year, but being from Oklahoma, that's quite a bit of money to make it to NY! But I'm saving up! Armchair BEA has been a blast so far, and I'll be checking out your posts too! :)

  9. I am participating in Armchair BEA for the first time this year, so far it's a lot of fun. I can't attend the real BEA, as I live in the Netherlands and have a fear of both heights and planes, so i don't think I'll ever get overseas. I also love fantasy and contemporary romances, beside YA I also read a lot of NA and Adult books and some MG. I am trying to read more sci-fi books lately as I completely fell in love with SJ Pajonas her Nogiku series and recently watched the Star Wars movies and together they convinced me that I actually love sci-fi (I always thought it was boring for some reason). So I am planning to read more books in that genre now :)

    1. You could take a boat! ;) Although, that might take quite a bit of time to make it here. That's really cool though that you are from the Netherlands, Lola! Btw, I am in love with your name! Have you read Lola and the Boy Next Door? SO GOOD. I actually have never watched the Star Wars movies. Epic fail on my part. I need to do it. I just haven't gotten around to it. I mean, I've seen bits and pieces but I don't think I've sat down and watched the whole thing through. I was raised watching Star Trek with my dad so I've always had an interest in all things Sci-Fi! YAY for finding out that Sci Fi actually isn't boring at all! I'm glad you had such a great time participating in Armchair BEA! It was my first time too! :)

  12. So many people have went blue in the face telling me about The Winner's Curse. I'm ashamed that I haven't read it yet. I still can't believe we've followed each other on Instagram so long and never realized the other had a blog. Hah. I'm so thankful for ABEA, man! :)
