WHAT'S HAPPENING IN BECCA LAND?
Well, not so good in Becca Land this past week, unfortuantely. Things the past two weeks have been nuts, especially with work. Good news is that work has exponentially dropped since Halloween so YAY for Vacation time. Bad news is I've hurt my wrist. Not just any wrist either. My right wrist. (I'm right handed) This has been a travesty for me, because just doing simple things is so very hard for me at the moment. I didn't sprain it or anything. Idk what the deal is exactly, but I woke up last Sunday in the middle of the night with horrible, horrible pain radiating from my fingertips to my elbow and all of my fingers were numb except for my pinky. The past couple of weeks I have noticed that the tips of my fingers in my right hand would become numb while I was painting, but that was no big deal. This was a huge deal though. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the feeling back in my fingers and the pain was just awful. I did some research on the web (BAD BECCA) and it seems most likely that I have severe carpal tunnel. I thought maybe it would get better throughout the week if I rested it, which explains my lack of posts this week, but alas, it hasn't. I also dread and hate going to the doctor, because I just don't like it at all, but I'm going to have to. The majority of the day I spend with a numb hand, and it's very hard to grasp anything without gasping in pain. What makes matters worse is that my right hand is also my painting hand. I had three totes to paint this week, and usually I can have that many done in a snap (or a day), but this week, that so wasn't the case. It took me a whole dang week to paint three bags. I felt horrible for my customers because I know they want their bags ASAP but it's hard to paint quality work with a numb hand. I got it done, but for the foreseeable future, I might not be turning out totes as quickly as I used to. I'm not sure what the doctor is going to do to me on Monday, but whatever it is, I desperately hope it's something that will help. I'm also terrified, because from what I read about it, carpal tunnel is usually the sign of an underlying issue..which can be rheumatoid arthritis (which runs in my family), diabetes, or a thyroid issue. I hope that's not the case, but we shall see. Keep me in your thoughts on Monday. I'll be sure to update everyone!

Other than that, I've been trying to read, but of course, that's difficult as well. The most notable book I've read this week is The Start of You and Me by Emery Lord. I know ya'll probably hate me right now! But seriously, pre-order it. I loved it even more than I loved Open Road Summer, and trust me, I loved the heck out of that book. Right now, I'm in the middle of In the Afterlight (which is good) and Famous in Love (which I'm kind of struggling with). What are ya'll reading??

Anyone participating in NaNo, btw?? I hope to start today. I took the first week off for obvious reasons (above), but I'm not giving up. I will win again this year, I swear it. Add me here!

  1. Seriously girl, I'm feeling all sorts of awful now! I wasn't in a hurry with my tote and your hand needed more rest! And yes, BAD BECCA!! I'm glad that you are finally going to the doctor, and I hope that you'll get the best answer possible and a solution! You might need physical therapy and a brace for resting the wrist if it's carpal tunnel syndrome.

    1. No, no! Don't feel awful! I just hate having a bunch of orders waiting to go out. LOL. I like to get them done as soon as possible just in case. I never know what's going to come up with work at the last minute. I'll be sure to let you know what the doc says!

  2. Becca, I know what you are going through. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is not fun at all. In fact it's very painful. Take time and rest. Also when doing reviews, I bought this software called Dragon Dictate and it works wonderful. Almost all my reviews are done with voice dicatation software. When you go to the doctor, they will give you a brace to wear at night, do wear it, plus some pain killers. Rest your hand. Also put an Ice pack on your hands when you can for five minutes each day at least twice a day once in the morning and once before bed as it cuts down on the inflammation. You got some awesome books. I hope that I have been helpful. Have a lovely weekend.

    1. It is! My dad keeps saying that I'm fine, but some nights I can't even sleep because the pain is so horrible. I hate it. I've been trying to rest as much as possible but it's very hard, because I do everything with my right hand. Trying to learn to do it with my left has been difficult to say the least! Ooooh. That's a fabulous idea! I'm going to look that up right away! Thank you so much! I never even thought about that before! You've been extremely helpful Grace. THANK YOU! I really cannot say that enough!!! Here's hoping it works ASAP! :) I hope you had a lovely weekend, hun!

Black Ice and Talon are both two of my faves this year! I read them earlier in the year, and just had to have finished copies! Thanks so much dear! I hope they get better ASAP too! :)

  6. OH Becca! I'm so sorry! I didn't know about this!!! Just so you know, carpal tunnel doesn't just pop up over night, so I don't know if that would be the right diagnosis. Honestly, it sounds like a pinched nerve to me. If the doctor doesn't give you any good advice, I would go to a chiropractor. They aren't just for backs, they do all sorts of magical things that make you feel a 1000% better. I will forever swear by chiropractors--seriously they are the wizards of our age. But I really do hope that the doctor will give you good information and try to help you fix whatever is going on! I know that has to be absolutely zero fun. Let me know what news you get back!! *sending hugs your way*

    1. Yeah, the only reason I think it's carpal tunnel is because I've been noticing the numb fingertips for awhile. I just thought I was over-doing stuff, but it's just gotten progressively worse over the past month to the point where I can't stand it without having it looked at. If they can't do anything, I'll def check out the chiropractor! I never even thought about that! I'll definitely let you know girly! Thanks for the advice! *HUGS*

  8. ACK ZODIAC!!! And I'm jealous that you got Talon signed!! I have a signed bookplate meant for it, but it's just not the same. I can't bring myself to stick it in there >.< I'm holding out for when she comes to Ohio again! She has so many appearances that I know I'll catch her eventually.

So, erm...scratch the last comment I left about commissions O_O Carpal tunnel is a scary, scary thing. When I moved to Wordpress I was on the computer for almost a week straight fixing old blog posts, and I got the beginnings of carpal tunnel and it was extremely painful! The best thing to do is rest for a while...I'm sure your customers will understand! If you don't give your hand a break it will just get worse :(
