Waiting on Wednesday (26)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine, where you can spotlight an upcoming release that you're eagerly anticipating!

This week I'm waiting on:
A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall Releases on: August 26th, 2014 ADD IT TO GOODREADS!
FROM GOODREADS: The creative writing teacher, the delivery guy, the local Starbucks baristas, his best friend, her roommate, and the squirrel in the park all have one thing in common- they believe Gabe and Lea should get together. Lea and Gabe are in the same creative writing class. They get the same pop culture references, order the same Chinese food, and hang out in the same places. Unfortunately, Lea is reserved, Gabe has issues, and despite their initial mutual crush, it looks like they are never going to work things out. But somehow even when nothing is going on, something is happening between them, and everyone can see it. Their creative writing teacher pushes them together. The baristas at Starbucks watch their relationship like a T.V. show. The bus driver tells his wife about them. The waitress at the diner automatically seats them together. Even the squirrel who lives on the college green believes in their relationship.
Surely Gabe and Lea will figure out they are meant to be together... 
WHY I'M WAITING:
This is seriously one book that has a plot told in one of the most unique ways. 12 DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. All of which are neither Lea or Gabe. How neat! I made the mistake of reading an excerpt on Swoon Reads and I NEED MORE!!!! WAH! Luckily it comes out soon!

Swaggy Idea for Your Shoebox Swag!

I am constantly receiving swag for my favorite books, whether through giveaways, signings, friends, etc. But what is one to do with all that swag? I mean, mine was gathering in a box, as I'm sure most of yours is as well. 
But I want to show mine off! Not let it collect dust! 
Well, never fear, my friends! I have just the solution for this problem. I originally did my first swag project about a year ago, but I did another yesterday, and had quite the reaction to it on instagram! Most of who saw it wanted to know how I did it, so here's my how-to solution for all your shoebox swag!

Wanna do it yourself?

Here's what you'll need:

(1) package of Locktite Fun-Tak Mounting Putty (or any kind of mounting putty! This is just the type I use!) 

(1) 24X36 Poster Frame (Also, you can use any size. This just happens to be the kind I got. For only $10 from Wal-Mart!)

LOTSA SWAG!

How I did it:

1. Unwrap your Poster Frame, and take it apart, but keep the preprinted picture on the inside. You'll be using this to adhere your swag to! 

2. Flip over the preprinted picture, and gather your shoebox swag!

3. Play TETRIS! No, really. Trying to make all your swag fit is like playing an intense Tetris game. I suggest laying it out how you want it, before sticking it on the page.

4. Once you have it all laid out how you want it, start putting your putty (giggles) on the back of each individual piece of swag. On bookmarks, I basically put a tiny bit on the top and bottom on the back. For bigger pieces, I just did each corner. But whatever works for you, is good! I just went piece by piece, and stuck them to the paper before moving on to the next one.

5. All your swag is stuck down? Good. Now it's time to put the clear cover on top of the poster, and then put your frame back together.

6. Hang your beautiful masterpiece wherever you like, and stare fondly at it!! :)

MY THOUGHTS:
Dearest Midnight Thief,
From page one, you consumed me. You were quite the enthralling fantasy- something I've been craving as of late. You were just the book to feed my appetite. I couldn't devour you fast enough.
You tell the story of Kyra and Tristam, alternating chapters between the two characters, which I loved. Kyra is a street rat, who steals to survive, and Tristam is a Palace knight, who is quite the knight in shining armor, if I say so myself. *wink wink* Anyways, Kyra gets roped into a job with the Assassin's Guild, and ultimately ends up in a pickle that intertwines her life with Tristam. What ensues was suspenseful, addictive, adventurous, and do I need to keep going? 
Kyra is fierce. She is definitely one of the fiercest heroines I have read this year. Yes, she made some stupid decisions, but she learned from them and ultimately discovers and unravels information about her past that she never would've found out had she not made those mistakes. I was not expecting that startling secret, mentioned above. But it made you even better, if that's possible. Tristam was the icing on the cake. I mean, what's not to love about a knight? I really enjoyed reading from his perspective. It definitely gave me a little more insight. 
The secondary characters were all well developed, as well. I wish we would've seen a little bit more interaction between them and Kyra, though. However, I did not like James. UGH. I'm not sure how Kyra fell into his little charade, and started falling for him, because yuck. Maybe I will feel differently after reading your prequel, Poison Dance, which I hear is just as enticing as you, Midnight Thief.
The world-building was absolutely incredible. I can honestly say I have never read a fantasy like you before, which is a great thing! I am already desperately awaiting the next book in your series. Your author, Livia Blackburne, has wrote a stunning debut, and I look forward to seeing what happens next! FIVE HEARTS!!!

Becca is currently on her third consecutive 17 hour shift since it's a holiday week/weekend, and very extremely  tired delirious. Not much reading is being done at the moment, other than a buddy read with Pili!! YAY! Other than that.... well, let's put it this way.... there's things to do other than work and read? Huh. Never knew that. ;)

Or really, any Dr. Seuss book! But I especially remember loving this little book when I was a kid. I begged and begged to read it with my parents when I was younger!
